The short film "Niko" was created for our multimedia lab at the Center of Advanced Research and Technology as one of our major projects.  We created an original story with the overall theme of inspiration.  This project showcases the work of all of our team members.  It includes the short film, its trailer, the behind the scenes documentaries, and its effects reel.

While making "Niko", I used multiple close-up and medium close-up shots to convey the emotion of Niko throughout the movie.  While editing, I changed the pace of editing depending on the scene's tension.  When tension was high, I used quick cuts to show rapidness, then used few/no cuts when tension was very low.  Regarding color, the nightmare/flashback scenes were given a slight green and gray overlay to give a sickly feeling.  The first half of the movie had a blue and grey tint that gradually increased as Niko began feeling more "lost" mentally after he ran away.  Finally, when Niko runs into Alex, the overlay transitions into a warm tone to convey Niko's feeling of relief after finding what he was looking for.

This is the behind the scenes featurette for the movie Niko. Being able to document our process from beginning to end was a blast. Throughout the whole BTS(behind the Scenes) we walk through a dated sequence of our journey. I wanted to give a feel of how long it took us to do everything and to show each step by step process.

I wanted to create a scary feeling for the nightmare scenes, so I thought distorting the image subtly would give off that vibe. I also thought darkening the edges around the frame would add to the dark, brooding feeling. For the motion tracking effect, I wanted the text to move with the phone so it looked like the phone had that text on it originally.

Here is my very short video based on the film Niko by Noah Alexander. This portion is basically a documentary made by only me and filmed behind the scenes from Niko. There are only six shots taken in Old Town Clovis using my android device. There are only five of us in a team four is based on video and only one graphics student all working together. When this is watched, this will show you how the Niko film was made into each stepping stone all to the very end.
